The perfect portrait depends on the photograph you send me. There are a few guidelines to follow... but remember at any point if you're unsure if the photo is suitable, email me a scanned or jpeg image and I'll tell you straight away if I can work with it.

Good sharp edges allow me to draw a striking likeness.

Photographs taken outside and those taken with a flash indoors can sometimes work very well.

A good indication is if the subject has light reflected in their eyes and good shadows.

If there is anything unwanted in the original photograph I can leave it out for example, stains on clothes, fly-away hair and blemishes are the most asked for.

Passport sized photographs (or smaller) are almost impossible to use, an ideal size would be five centimetres from ear to ear or larger, but that’s more of a guide than a rule.

I am also able to bring two or more subjects from different photographs together, so that it looks as though they were together when the photograph was taken.

I generally leave backgrounds out of the finished portrait. I think they can detract from the impact of the subject. However, if the background is important, let me know on your order form.

Please take a look at the 'Commissioning Process' page or email me with any questions.
